Born in 1937 in Waukesha Wisconsin, Robert P (Bob) Berg appeared on the scene. After spending his first 18 years on a dairy farm, Bob opted too join the U. S. Navy and dedicate the next 26 years to that endeavor. Along the way, in 1957, he was invited by a fellow sailor to spend the weekend in El Monte CA, and his friend would set him up with a “blind date”. The following year, Bob and the “blind date” married and have remained so for over 56 years. While on active duty, the moves were frequent including a couple of years in the Philippines as well as a couple of years in Australia. The family has remained in Mira Mesa now since 1975. Over the 26 years Bob went from a seaman recruit (E-1) to Master Chief Radioman (E-9), serving as the Command Master Chief for his last two commands.

After retiring from the Navy he worked for an engineering company for 10 years as a communications engineer. The company went out of business and then Bob decided to try his hand at income tax. He took the basic income tax course from H&R Block and that was the beginning of the next career. He started working for Block year around and also was one of their instructors. While so employed, he took and passed the enrolled agent exam, authorized to represent tax clients in front of the Internal Revenue Service. Not satisfied with the progress of Block, I decided to join my son when he wanted to purchase and operate a Liberty Tax Franchise. After six years of finding the expense exceeded the income and there just was not enough there to support his five children. So, with Robert walking away from that, Bob determined that he still enjoyed the annual visit with so many tax clients, that he would do so with his own business. The birth of BERG TAXES.
